Wearable antennas that track real-time body parameters and habits are an integral part to IoT. Nate et al. describe a stretchable and flexible loop antenna whose resonant frequency changes according to the applied strain on it. The model is fabricated using 3D printing, specifically Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM).

The choice of a loop antenna was made due to its large front and back lobes that closely mimic a omnidirectional radiation pattern. The material used is NinjaFlex, which is a thermoplastic elastomer highly suitable for 3D printing. The antenna parameters are optimized using the Slicer software. Since the antenna is to be mounted very close to the head (near the ear), it is important to measure the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for conformity to the standards. This is done by simulating the effects on a specific anthropomorphic mannequin (SAM), yielding satisfactory results
