Along with two other accomplished women engineers, Aardra Kannan Ambili, and Sanchi Poovaya, Ranjana founded and is at the helm of raybaby — the world’s first and only non-contact breathing tracker for babies.
Previously employed with Microsoft and a stint at Accenture, Ranjana is no stranger to the startup scene, with a long run at XXICO as Founder and CEO, creating rich interactive multimedia experiences with built-for-touch applications.
I took a conscious decision to move to a smaller company to understand the nuances of working with limited resources.
I started working on sensors and met Sanchi Poovaya (she had just finished her Masters from Cornell and was looking at working in the energy sector).
Together we worked on creating prototypes for Virtual Shop assistants, security devices for women safety.
We realized that in this day and age the breathing rate is an important predictor and health vital (that can predict heart attacks and fever) that was being ignored.
With our experience in working with sensors and AI we created this company and named it Ray. Ray of Hope or a ray of light for the needed ones.
We were already working on creating awareness around the importance of tracking breathing rate.
For all these reasons, we created a non-contact health monitor that can help Doctors keep a track of patients (who are not even bed-ridden) from anywhere.
Every day we need to make decisions that can change the course of the company.
Sometimes you do not know how those decisions are going to affect the company in future.
But in all of this, there is an awareness that we will make mistakes and we need to be responsible for the same.
We were 10 years too early or we may have started in the wrong geography or we were not the right people for that business model.
        7.
