Workshop #1

February 1, 2017 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Cloud is seeing considerable activity in terms of M&A and new market entrants. There are close to 360+ IoT platforms today. Acquisitions are also at an all time high that started with PTC acquiring ThingWorx and Axeda a few years back. In the last one year, Amazon acquired 2lemetry, Autodesk acquired SeeControl, Cisco acquired Jasper and Munich Re bought Meshify. This is the same space where big players play – IBM with Watson, Microsoft with Azure and GE with Predix.

This IoT Platforms workshop, organized by TiE-IESA IoT Forum, is intended to sensitize and evangelize the use of IoT platforms for the IoT startup community. There are a multitude of IoT Platforms available to choose from – established platforms from large players, developer’s platforms, opensource IoT platforms and ready platforms focused towards very specific verticals. In the workshop, we will cover the basic framework and building blocks of an IoT platform, how you would choose the right platform for your IoT requirements? Would you build or buy? How do you navigate the plethora of platforms and narrow down on which platform is right for you? What are the basic ingredients to watch out for when you choose a platform? What are the different types of commercial terms offered by the different vendors? Are you getting locked in to a particular IoT platform? Do you own the and what flexibility do you have if you decide to switch?

Sharan Kantikar, MD & COO of Preva Systems and Jawahar Arumugam, Chief Architect of Preva Systems will be conducting the workshop. In an open 2.5 hour discussion, we will go through the basic building blocks of an IoT platform, talk about how to make a decision on IoT platforms and help you navigate through the amazing maze of IoT platforms out there. We will also have a live demo of the Preva Systems IoT platform.
