EdgeX Foundry, a vendor-neutral open source project aimed at building a common open framework for IoT edge computing, recently announced the availability of its “Fuji” release.
With a focus on the Internet of Things (IoT) Edge, EdgeX Foundry is an open source, flexible, and scalable software framework which simplifies interoperability between IoT devices and applications in the IoT Edge.
Launched in April 2017, and now part of the LF Edge umbrella, EdgeX presents the choice to plug and play from a thriving ecosystem of accessible third-party offerings or to enhance proprietary innovations.
In addition, this permits the streamlining of the the process to design, develop and deploy solutions across many types of industrial, enterprise, and consumer applications and allows developers, technology providers, and end users to realize business-value faster and at a lower cost.
EdgeX, as a Stage 3 project under LF Edge, demonstrates the project’s benefits as a self-sustaining cycle of development, maintenance, and long-term support, that recently achieved one million platform container downloads, with almost half of these being downloaded within the last few months.
“EdgeX Foundry has experienced significant momentum in developing an open IoT platform for edge-related applications and shows no signs of slowing down,” said Arpit Joshipura, General Manager, Networking, Edge and IoT, the Linux Foundation.
“As the only Stage 3 project under LF Edge, EdgeX Foundry is a clear example of how open collaboration is the key to an active community dedicated to creating an interoperable open source framework across IoT, Enterprise, Cloud and Telco Edge.”
“The 1M container download isn’t our only milestone,” said Keith Steele, EdgeX Foundry chair of the Technical Steering Committee and LF Edge Governing Board member.
Application services that now offer full replacement capabilities to older export services provided with previous EdgeX releases
