What’s the point of collecting data from your IoT devices unless you are informed when something goes wrong or necessary action is taken automatically?
Whenever your sensor sends a measurement which is less or more than the thresholds, your IoT application should let you know and take the necessary action automatically.
This is where “alarm” and “smart rule” concepts come into play and Turkcell IoT Platform has great features to ease your IoT application development.
Before we dive into details of creating alarms and chain actions via smart rules, I highly recommend you to read my first and second articles beforehand because here I will make use of what we have created earlier.
Creating a Smart Rule to create Alarms
Click “Add Smart Rule” at the right of the top menu bar.
Select “On measurement explicit threshold create alarm” smart rule on the shown screen.
Select “Temperature data point – T” in the second ComboBox as shown below.
Click “Create”
The Platform will raise an alarm whenever the value exceeds the threshold.
Seeing alarms on Data Explorer
Switch to “Data Explorer” tab.
To be able to see the simulator’s data and alarms, click “Add data point”
Check the CheckBox and click “Add”.
Click “Add alarm / event”.
Select “Temperature #1” under “Asset”, and check the first CheckBox as shown below.
Click “Add”.
Now we see data in blue lines in the chart and alarms in brown dots under the chart.
Now it is time to define what will happen if an alarm raises.
This can also be done via “Smart Rule”.
Go back to “Info” tab and “Add Smart Rule”.
Click “On alarm send email”.
Enter “c8y_ThresholdAlarm” for the second step as shown below.
Click “Create”.
Your screen should seem like below and you should be receiving emails on alarms wit the subject of “New CRITICAL alarm from Temperature #1”.
Sending SMS on alarms
List of Smart Rules of Turkcell IoT Platform are as follows.
You can send SMS whenever an alarm is raised.
Click “On alarm send SMS”
