Devices are normally tested to some standards such as FCC, CE, and RoHS etc for compliance. These apply especially for end use and exported products. Many start-ups are unable to do early stage usability and reliability and other types of testing. Examples are electro-magnetic compatibility, radio range, and ability to withstand environmental conditions etc. Good estimates for mean time to failure and failure rates are vital for customer satisfaction and profitability. Testing facilities are expensive and cover a range of capabilities: electrical, mechanical and environmental. As a pilot to the Testing & Certification Assistance scheme, a few start-ups will be provided assistance to help them with early stage testing.
