India may have 40,000 civilian drones in place. Drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have emerged as popular and useful method for surveying and delivery of targeted resources in precision Agriculture, inspection of Utility pipelines, mines, factory sites especially hazardous like descending into chimneys. Traffic police as well have begun using them. Amazon grabbed a large mindshare with drone-based delivery and China has made great progress. DJI from China has emerged as major supplier but most start-ups use custom designed ones. Global innovation in bee sized and swarms for disaster relief as well as UAV with longer flight time and bigger payload are active . Open source drone operating systems like PX4, Ardupilot are helping mass adoption. Drone Policy recently announced by DGCA may make the ecosystem more vibrant and the 22 Start-ups like Aarav, Agnext, Drona Aviation, Skylark and others may soon see more company.
